Hackschooling- Logan LaPlante at TED – Mindset for Success
Logan shares with us what question kids are often asked, what do you want to be when you grow up,
What answer are you hoping for?
Deep down and so simply, kids want to be happy… what a profound thought.
Neuro Scientists have noted the differance between the teenage brain and the adult brain, and the findings show that the prefrontal cortex of the teen brain so they are more impulsive, creative, and moody compared to a grown adult.
The problem and findings these days show that teens are just “wishing” to be happy to be healthy and safe, not bullied and loved for who they are.
We cannot assume that just because our kids get good grades, graduate and get a job that they are automaticly going to be happy and healthy.
Happy and Healthy are not a priority in our schools. The practice of being happy and healthy is a mindset that needs to be practiced and taught, and should be a consideration in the education of our kids
In the study of being happy and healthy there are 8 core areas that need focus:
1. Excercise
2. Diet and Nutrition
3. Time in Nature
4. Contribution of Service to Others
5. Relationships
6. Recreation
7. Relaxation for stress management
8. Religiout or spiritual involvement
These are called TLC’s or Theraputic Lifestlye changes
There are a growing number of families that have decided that traditional education is not the choice for their family, a growing revolution of kids and families that are challanging the system.
Today I’m thrilled to share how Logan is hacking his education and developing a mindset that will set him up for big success in his life.

Base education on the study of being happy and healthy – what a great concept.
Wow…this is so good. Even though my 16-year-old son is gifted in math and is being prospected by top colleges, he wants to do it his own way. He is learning programming and wants to start a beverage company on the side. I listened to his business plan the other day, and he gets it! I encouraged him to do it and am considering letting him choose college or not. Being happy over everything is my message to my kids. Of course, it being happy naturally, being “high on life’–through taking good care of the fundamentals.
An amazing fine, Rachel. Thanks for posting. We know the importance of this, do we not??
