Web Design Basics

Hiring a professional web designer to develop your website is a large investment. And by spending all that money, it still doesn’t give the certainty that you will be happy with the end results.

When you finally start designing your site, use the tips in this article to create a website you can be truly proud of.

Web Page Design

It is a good idea to have an “About Us” page on your site. Too many websites use boring, generic biographies. Make it a little more exciting! Try giving people a tiny peek into your personal background. Try showing how you got into web page design, who inspired you, and what you hope to accomplish with your business.

Make sure you sign up for things like newsletters, so that you always have saved information on different web design information. This way if you for some reason lose sight during your web designing efforts, you can get straight back into it. Regardless of the experience level, newsletters are valuable for all web designers.

Everyone has heard about Photoshop, and they know that they have to learn it in order to become successful with website creation. Even still, many people don’t know anything about dreamweaver and the benefits it can offer to web designers. Check this program out for yourself.

Remember — web design doesn’t need to cost a lot. There are certainly expensive design tools out there, but many companies offer software with similar features at a fraction of the cost. For example, free open-source software can usually help you to accomplish the exact same tasks that paid software does. Taking the open source software plunge can definitely keep costs in check.

You don’t have to do everything yourself. Website development requires knowledge of many different areas including graphic design, user interface design, web programming, search engine optimization and content creation. Getting help shouldn’t be embarrassing, everyone needs it – even the experts! You always have the option of hiring a company or professional that specializes in a particular area that you are not familiar with.

Free web hosting might sound like a bargain, but it can quickly turn into a nightmare. Avoid it for any of your business needs. It may be tempting because of the price, but you may be allowing the host to put advertisements on your site that you cannot control and are potentially offensive to your customers. This can draw customers away rather than draw them in.

Make sure all your links are updated, and working properly. Good website design relies on being user friendly, and broken links are frustrating to your visitors. Check your site daily for any problems, and make important updates as often as necessary.

Website design is fun and simple because you can create the image you have in your head by making a few clicks or typing two or three lines of code. These tips should help you create a successful design that will encourage your visitors to pay attention to your content. Make sure to follow this advice exactly as stated.

  1. This is great! I need this because I need to do a design, like, yesterday. I appreciate your approach; I would like things to be nice, but not too fancy, just like, me and I think that I can do that as soon as I can and make it affordable. Thank you, Rachel and Jamison, for this supportive, wonderful post.

  2. Web Design Basics are not so basic for me… That is why I love my Viral Blogging System platform 🙂 Awesome post Rachel…. Keep them coming!!!!

    • Agreed 🙂 Blogging is thurning out new content all the time for the search engines and many times a website is static due to the technology needed to maintain it 🙂 Thanks for your feedback 🙂

  3. Great informative post!! Thank you for sharing!!

  4. Thanks for the great info Jamison & Rachel! For now, like Jean-Francois, I’m sticking with blogging versus a static website but if I ever change my mind your article will be helpful.
