It is very important to get in mind before every ad is written, every video is shot and every blog is written … WHO specifically you are marketing to.  How can you help them?  What problems can you solve?  Who are they? What do they look like, what do they do professionally?  Who are they personally?

Focus on who your target market is and talk to him/her.

This will bring sucess quickly and you will attract those to your business that are buyers ready to take action.

  2. Rachel, thanks for this post… I do have a difficult time defining my Avatar… those I specifically want to address…. I think I’ve been trying to have mass appeal and therefore have “little” appeal. Thanks again… I’ll put this to use…

Because my personal philosophy is such that I think everyone should be interested in children and their well being because it determines how the world, and if the world continues, determining the audience is tricky. And because I started as a journalist, it is also hard because there is a theoretical mass appeal. I will continue to work on this for purposes of blogging and I appreciate your insights, Rachel.

  5. Great post Rachel about Target Marketing-your personal Avatar- Who is it? Good information and when you think about it we have a very broad marketplace to approach. I tend to take the view of 20% marketing and 80% getting to know me.
